Expressive arts therapy is a multimodal approach to therapy that may include writing, drama, dance, movement, painting, and/or music. Clients are encouraged to explore their responses, reactions, and insights through pictures, sounds, explorations, and encounters with art processes.

Please note that it is not required to have artistic ability or any prior experience with art to use or benefit from expressive arts therapy. It might help to think that a lot of the art is integrated in a way as to explore the process with curiosity and a sense of play, rather than the artistic product or end result that can emerge from these sessions.
